What is a Film Opening?

A film opening refers to the initial sequences of a movie that set the stage for the story, introduce characters, establish the tone, and often provide a hook to capture the audience's attention.

The opening scene of "Laal Kabootar" not only provides an adrenaline rush but also serves as a compelling introduction to the film's central themes of crime, corruption, and survival in the urban landscape of Karachi.

What I really liked about the film opening was the sudden change in portrayal of a normal atmosphere to the sudden and unexpected change in tone or mood that catches the audiences off guard and leaves them reeling with surprise or disbelief.

Contrapuntal music is used which really adds to the suspense and creates an emotional juxtaposition or adds layers of meaning to the scene. In this context, the music continues playing to heighten the emotional impact of the event or to underscore the dissonance between the visuals and the soundtrack.

It leaves the audience with the curiosity with what's going to happen next, the opening leaves them with questions that can only be answered if the rest of the movie is watched hence that is what makes an opening a good film opening, in my opinion.
