Representation

 Representation:

In our class today, we discussed what is representation. When our teacher asked us to define representation, I was rather reluctant to answer since I didn't know what representation was in media however with the help of my teacher and the class discussion, I was able to further. study representation in depth withtin media.

In media, representation is like how folks are portrayed in movies, TV shows, books, and stuff. It matters because it shapes how we view ourselves and others. Imagine if you only see one kind of person in movies – you might think that's all there is. But, hello, there's a whole bunch of diverse people out there! That's why it's crucial to showcase all kinds of people in media, so everyone feels like they belong and are seen.

Big companies like Disney and Sony control stereotypes and representation in media by influencing the creation and content of movies, TV shows, and other productions. They hold significant power in shaping narratives through decisions on casting, storytelling, and overall content direction. These companies often play a key role in defining cultural norms and values, impacting how various groups are portrayed. Through their influence on popular media, they can either reinforce or challenge stereotypes, contributing to broader societal perceptions.
